Minimum Requirements for Weight-Shift Controlled Aircraft Training
National Pilot’s Licence (NPL)
In compliance with Civil Aviation Regulations Part 62, Subpart 5, the following minimum requirements apply for training on a weight-shift controlled aircraft:
Age and Medical Certification
- Minimum Age: 16 years.
- Flight Medical Certificate: A valid and up-to-date certificate is mandatory.
Flight Training Requirements
A minimum of 25 hours of flight training is required, including:
- Solo Flight Time: At least 10 hours.
- Dual Cross-Country Flights:
- Two flights, each lasting a minimum of 90 minutes.
- Solo Cross-Country Test Flight: A single flight of at least 90 minutes.
Radio Telephony Certification
- Completion of a Radio Telephony Theory Course and obtaining a valid radio telephony license.
Theoretical Knowledge and Examinations
Candidates must complete and pass theory courses and examinations in the following areas:
- Principles of Flight
- Engines and Airframes
- Meteorology
- Civil Aviation Regulations
- Navigation
- Human Performance and Limitations
These requirements ensure that aspiring pilots are well-prepared to safely operate weight-shift controlled aircraft and meet the standards for obtaining a National Pilot Licence (NPL).
