Minimum Requirements for 3-Axis Light Sport Aircraft Training
National Pilot’s Licence (NPL)
To meet the Civil Aviation Regulations Part 62, Subpart 5, the following criteria must be fulfilled for training on an LSA aircraft:
Age and Medical Requirements
- Minimum Age: 16 years.
- Medical Certification: A valid flight medical certificate.
Flight Training Requirements
A minimum of 35 hours of flight training is required, which must include:
- Solo Flight Time: At least 15 hours.
- Dual Cross-Country Flights:
- One flight of at least 90 minutes.
- One flight into a controlled airport.
- Solo Cross-Country Test Flight: A minimum of 90 minutes.
Radio Telephony Certification
- Completion of a Radio Telephony Theory Course and acquisition of a valid radio license.
Theoretical Knowledge and Exams
Successful completion of theory courses and exams in the following subjects:
- Principles of Flight
- Engines and Airframes
- Meteorology
- Civil Aviation Regulations
- Navigation
- Human Performance and Limitations
Meeting these requirements ensures you are fully prepared to obtain your National Pilot Licence (NPL) and operate a light sport aircraft safely and competently.
